About

Built in a kitchen in Sydney, for a family that cooks from its phone.

Recipes started as a fix for our own dinner table. My wife finds more good cooking on Instagram in a week than a cookbook manages in a year. The problem was never finding recipes. It was finding them again: the one with the sauce, the one with the three-day marinade, the one that was definitely saved somewhere.

The apps we tried wanted the recipe written out in the caption. Most of the best ones aren't. The creator says the amounts out loud, or flashes them on screen for a second, and the caption says “recipe in comments”. So the thing I wanted to build was simple to say and hard to do: share the video, and get back a recipe that was actually watched. Spoken steps, on-screen text, caption, in that order of trust, and an honest blank where something was never said.

Then the rest followed from how we actually cook. One step per screen, because the phone is on the bench next to a hot pan. A scaler, because it's never four people. A grocery list that merges the onions. And one cookbook for the whole house, because in our kitchen nobody cooks alone.

It's a small, independent app. No ads, no selling data, and a free plan that stays genuinely useful. If something's wrong, or you want something that isn't there, write to me. I read every message.
